About Me
I am a twenty one year old senior at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I was born in Jackson, Michigan and moved to Winter Springs, Florida (outside Orlando) when I was a year old. The summer before fifth grade, I moved up to Matthews, North Carolina. I like North Carolina a lot more than Florida. I have an older sister, who is in nursing school, a brother in law, a four year old nephew and a one year old niece. I absolutely love my niece an nephew. They are the cutest kids ever.
As far back as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have never thought of myself as having a regular job sitting at a desk all day. I could never do that. I have way to much energy! I visited Appalachian State once my senior year of high school and fell in love with it. I knew immediately that I was meant to go there. I applied early and luckily I got in. I have absolutely loved ASU and my time spent here but I am ready to graduate and get out into the real world.
Back when I was thinking about what grade I wanted to teach, I thought I wanted to teach the younger grades. Then I got to thinking I wanted to teach fourth or fifth grade. Those were my favorite grades in elementary school because you learn a lot of interesting information. After working for the past year or so at the Siskey YMCA Children’s Center I thought about teaching kindergarten. I used to be totally objected to it but after working with the five year olds this past summer and the first graders in block one practicum, I think I would be up for the challenge.
What I Like
I absoultely love my family and friends. I get along great with my parents and I can honestly say that my mom is one of my best friends. I don’t know where I would be without them today. My sister and I haven’t always gotten along, but things are great between us now. This is probably the best we have gotten along in a long time. My friends are always there for me and I am always there for them. We have so much fun even when we have nothing to do. I always have a great time when I am around them.
I love pictures. I have so many pictures around my room. Pictures remind me of great memories and all of the fun things I have done with my family and friends. I have so many pictures in frames and photo boxes that I don’t know what to do with! There is not a single picture that I can’t tell you the story behind it or what we were doing.
I love love love traveling. There are so many places that I want to see. I love to experience a new place and a new culture. I have been on a few cruises to different islands and countries in the Caribbean and I love meeting the people that live there. Their lives are so different than ours and it makes you appreciate what you have. I also love traveling across the United States. I think it is amazing that one country can be so different and have so many different cultures inside of it.
I am a big fan of food. I love eating. I used to be a really picky eater but I wouldn’t consider myself picky anymore. In the past five or so years I have opened up a lot with my eating habits. I love fruits and vegetables and I would eat them all day if I could. I also love meat. I could never be a vegetarian because I like meat way too much.
I love books. I can spend so much time reading that I don’t even realize how much time has passed. I like to read right before I go to bed and on the beach on a bright sunny day. I always tell myself that I will read only one more chapter and then I end up reading like eight more. Oh well! My favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult. It is hard for me to pick one favorite book but My Sister’s Keeper is up high on the list. Some of my favorite childrens books are Because of Winn Dixie, Alice the Fairy, Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse, and Madeline.
What girl doesn’t love shoes? I have recently picked up the habit of buying shoes, and lots of them. I bought a lot of pairs this summer. I especially like it when you find the cutest pair of shoes and they are on sale for very cheap. I bought two pairs of really cute shoes this summer for eleven dollars. Eleven dollars for two pairs of shoes! It’s like I told my boyfriend…you cannot not buy a pair of shoes for five dollars
My favorite sport is football and my favorite teams are the Mountaineers and the Panthers. I love spending my Saturdays at ASU football games and watching the Panthers play on Sundays. Whenever I watch games with my sister I always have to explain to her what is going on and what happened.
I don’t know what it is, but I have a thing with polka dots. I have polka dotted bed sheets, polka dotted shirts, three pairs of polka dotted shoes, and so on. I just love polka dots.
What I Dislike
I cannot stand tomatoes. Ugh. They are probably one of my least favorite foods. But yet I love tomato products, especially ketchup. If there are tomatoes on something that I am eating, I will most likely pick them off.
Most people are shocked when they hear this but I highly dislike sweet tea. I don’t know what it is about it but I just can’t stand it. Nobody in my family likes sweet tea except for my dad.
I highly dislike arguements and fighting with my friends and family. My friends and I don’t fight very often but when we do I hate it. I usually try to make things better any way I can. My sister and I fought a lot when we were little and didn’t get along for the longest time. Now that we have both grown up and matured a lot, we get along great. Sometimes we still get into it but it doesn’t last very long and we will be fine in no time.
I think mosquitoes are the most annoying insects on the planet and yet they seem to love me. I cannot go outside in the evening during the summer without getting at least 3 mosquito bites. I don’t know what it is about me that they love but they will not stay away from me. My legs in the summertime have bites all over them. My nephew is the same way, the love him as well. I will be outside with a bunch of people and I will be the only that gets bit. The bites are more like welts because when I am first bitten, they swell up to be the size of a half dollar. It is horrible and so hard for me not to scratch them.
What I Look Like
I would consider myself to be an average looking girl. I am about five foot three on a good day. I have dark blond hair down to my shoulders that gets lighter during the summer. When I was little I used to get offended when people said I had dirty blond hair because I didn’t know what it meant. I have bright blue eyes like the Carolina blue sky that really sparkle when I wear a blue or green shirt. I have an athletic body from years of playing sports as a child. I like to get dressed up on occasion but usually I just go with whatever I feel like wearing.
How I Act
When I first get to know someone, I am a very quiet and shy person. Give me a few days and I will open up a lot. I do not really talk a lot, even when I am around my family and friends. I like to listen to people because I think you gain and learn a lot more from listening than you do talking. I care a lot about people, even if I have just met them. I like to get all of my school work done early so I have time to hang out with my friends. I would consider myself a hard worker and a very organized person.
What You Should Know About Me
Like I said before, I am a very quiet person, so don’t take offense if I don’t talk a lot. I love children and cannot wait to be a teacher. My favorite color is pink and I am very easy to talk to. I adore my life and I wouldn’t change it at all.
I geared my Me Map towards younger grades (kindergarten to second). These are the grades that I want to teach. I wanted to include a lot of real life pictures so my students could see what my life is really like. There are many of my personal pictures on my Me Map and my students can see what and who are important in my life. I chose to do a powerpoint for my Me Map to introduce technology into the classroom.

Sarah,
Thanks for sharing; I will show you all how to upload images so that you can post all of those wonderful “pictures” that you love! I cannot wait to see them! I would love to see you add titles of some of your favorite books…especially any titles of children’s books! Also, as for the shoe fetish, when they are on sale like that, I like to say, “You’d be losing money if you didn’t’ buy them!”
I look forward to reading more!

Sarah Shroads,
I am a lot like you in that it takes me a while to open up to people, but as my friends can tell you when I do open up I can talk a lot. They find it funny when people make comments about me being quiet and always say that those people just don’t know me well. I enjoyed learning a little bit more about you. See you tomorrow!

Hey Sarah,
First I would like to say, I don’t think you’re an average looking girl, I think you’re absolutely BEAUTIUL! I also want to tell you that I don;t like sweet tea either. It’s pretty gross in my book. You did a good job in your about me section. Excellent!

Sarah,
I didn’t know that you like polka dots!!
Okay, one last question: How tall are you on a bad day?
First of all, I am SOOOO sorry that I have not written on your blog before now! I really thought I had. Will you still be my friend? Thanks! I am very glad that you like NC better than Florida, because that means I know that you like being here with me! It is neat to see someone else who is actually ready to get out of college and into the real world. So many seniors that I know are having a hard time because they are not ready to leave yet. Also, it seems that you get along better with your siblings when you grow older. That’s the way it’s been in my family too. I love to read before bed! If I don’t, I feel like I’ve forgotten to do something, and I just can’t sleep that way.
